Notational Thoughts 1: Swarm

The swarm is many things at the same time. It can be read as a series of marks which make up a swarm, they can be read as a data blimp, a swarm of bees, a group of people in vociferous and anxious movement. One mark is a dot, few dots are a constellation, many dots become a swarm. For a few years, I’ve been thinking about the language of people being represented as a dot, and statistics on paper.
Many projects; geographical, historical, legal, socio-political, economic, conceptual, and philosophical are based on habitation, being able to occupy space to live, grow, procreate and loops back again and again. The swarm here is occupying space given by the cosmologies of mark-making, colour, form and composition.
